What do you think of them?

I've read them all, just finished number 12.

I'm a bit addicted I read the whole thing yesterday...and yet they are all so similar now, it's pretty unfulfilling...yet I can't beat the habit.

I've read them all - spread out though over the years though.
Really like them for being slightly off-the-wall and also for the sexy men in them... Can't decide whether I prefer Morelli or Ranger

SmileysPeople · 28/01/2007 15:12

I think the Morelli vs Ranger dilemma is the only reson I still read them.

In fact last night I skimmed through all the 'dectective story' bit just to get to the bits they were in.

I've been pondering on and off all day which I would choose (I must get a life)

On balance I think I'd go with Morelli.

He wants to mke a commitment and is damn sexy to boot.

But could I resist Ranger??

Hmm will just have to ponder this further

Hi Smileyspeople and geekgrrl, I know exactly what you mean. I started off finding them very funny, but they are really samey, I mean how many times can her car be blown up, or she visits the morgue with her grandma.
I also find myself skipping the detective bits to get to the romance/sex stuff I have also unsurpisingly thought about the Ranger/Morelli dilemma. I think she should have them both, so there

YeahBut · 28/01/2007 15:19

Both at the same time would be my vote.
I'm a fan, althought the first books are better than the latest offerings. I get the feeling that they are being churned out like biscuits on a production line now.

Overrun · 28/01/2007 15:24

I'd like to see that happen as well yeahbut, I mean read about it happening

SmileysPeople · 28/01/2007 15:31

I did find myself laughing out aloud still a couple of times last night. the characters and dialogue are still very funny. I think Lula is great.

Why is it not a TV series? It seems to be made for TV, with a different story every episode, and the whole 'sexual tension' between the charcters. Think Moonlighting.

I can't understand why this hasn't happned.

Morelli VS Ranger: but she'd loose Morelli if she went with Ranger wouldn't she...and then what? Can't have both.

Morelli is the safer option, and probably the more long term one, I guess the problem is if she got married, she might settle down, kids and bounty hunting probably don't mix.
At least Ranger wouldn't stop her from being herself iyswim
Btw, can you give me a brief synopsis of the twelth one, as I think I might have only got as far as 11, but not sure

turquoise · 28/01/2007 17:08

I love them, though agree after the bonk with Ranger (was it in Hot Six) they've gone downhill pretty steadily. Still some really great funny scenes though, like the one in 10 or 11 when Lula squashes all Ranger's men in the casino.
I;'ve been to a couple of JE's booksigning lectures, she's well worth catching on a tour, just as funny as the books.
High Five is my favourite, I think once she succumbed to Ranger there wasn't really anywhere to go.

Overrun · 28/01/2007 17:10

I wasn't aware that she had, maybe I have mised one out. I know that there was something about a debt to pay, but didn't realise that they had actually done the deed

Swizzler · 28/01/2007 17:10

I thought I'd like them, but got a bit bored after reading a couple. I have one of her novellas out of the library at the mo, so will see that's any better.

turquoise · 28/01/2007 17:11

As for TV, there was a pilot being made a few years ago, but nothing seemed to come of it.
I'm glad actually, as I don't think they could make it as good as the books (though I always visualize the really old one from Golden Girls as Grandma Mazur). Think I'd have Sandra Bullock as Stef, but can't imagine casting Lula, Ranger or Morelli in any way that could live up to the book.

USAUKMum · 28/01/2007 17:14

I love all her books too -- have you read her other series? (Full House is one of them) Just as funny. Morelli is like a meal, satisfying, pleasing, and luscious. But Ranger is like dessert, too much is bad for you . But who can give up dessert

shonaspurtle · 28/01/2007 17:15

Morelli deffo. I think Ranger's meant to have a ponytail and that's a heuuuuuge turn-off for me .

Agree that they've got kind of samey but I still read them. My mum likes them too so she usually gets the hardback for birthday or christmas - result!

Overrun · 28/01/2007 17:15

A brilliant analogy but can any one clarify this bonking, have Ranger and Stephanie actually done it?

turquoise · 28/01/2007 17:17

Yep, in book seven I think and then again a few books later on. But it's always when she and Morelli are 'on a break'

Overrun · 28/01/2007 17:19

I think all her books have merged into one, and I recently sent them all to Oxfam, so can't go back and check it out.
Oh well, thanks for letting me know. I thought she was holding out, the tart

SmileysPeople · 28/01/2007 17:24

Book 12 Overun, is when there is a psycho posing as Ranger and stealing his identity, and he kidnaps Ranger's daughter ( I'd forgotten he had one)

I had to read to about chapter4 before I could work out if I'd read it yet or not. I got it out the libray as I didn't want to waste money if I had.

They referred in book12 to Staph sleeping with ranger, but I can't remember that either.

Janet Evanovich is definetly good at creating sexual tension though. She makes bopth men irrestible.

Oh good, thanks Smiley, from your description I know I havne't read that one. I'm just annoyed that I missed the sex scene can't have been that erotic if I don't remember it

chestnutty · 28/01/2007 19:36

I enjoyed these books (for similar reasons 2 the above posts!) but thought there was only ten ie 1 for the money etc ....10 something .Have there been 11 and 12?
Have read the full series - Think there was 4- Speed, tilt etc plus metrogirl.

Bucketsofdynomite · 31/01/2007 09:05

I bought DH Bulgari perfume last Xmas because I wanted to find out what Ranger smells like .
Can't read two Stephanie Plums in a row, too much calamity, need something quiet afterwards.
I always visualised Ramon Tikkaram as Ranger (This Life, Dream Team) but he might be too old now. Can't believe I'm now older than Stephanie Plum is supposed to be, first read her at 20, 10yrs ago.
Did anyone read Visions of Sugarplums, the Xmas Plum novella with the supernatural character Diesel? Very sexy bloke but the book is totally daft.
