Short Books of the type found on the checkouts at Waterstones

I've found several great short reads (usually around £2/3) on the checkout counter at Waterstones and am looking for more to help me meet my 50 book challenge this year....

Previously I've found Gillian Flynn's "The Grownup", Dickens' "The Signalman", Gabriel Garcia Marquez' "The very old man with the enormous wings".

I'm sure there must be more like this... Any recommendations?
