Hello,

We're thrilled that Holly Webb, who pens the beloved Animal Stories series, will be joining a stellar lineup of kids' authors at Mumsnet's Bookfest on 25 June (do take a look!).

In the run up to this unmissable family celebration of literature, we'd love to hear about your most-loved fictional animal of all time - be it pooch or pig (or ... spider?)

You'll be entered into a prize draw if you let us know here - one lucky MNer will win a bumper bundle of adorable Animal Stories books including Kitten Tales as well as Puppy Playtime sticker and activity as well as Perfect Puppies letter writing books!

Thanks! MNHQ

I love the plucky little snail from The Snail and the Whale (Julia Donaldson) who goes out into the big wide world and has many adventures, even saving the life of his whale friend.

Whatamess the scruffy afghan hound. I haven't thought of that dog for ages, must buy it for the kids. He always got into trouble but was cute enough to style it out. Like a toddler really....

This is a tough one...,there are so many! But I think my favorite of all must be Curious George.

Mostly because he's so much like DS2 Grin

We have a big book with all the stories in and it's the one book all five of us loved and is still in the bookcase next to DS2s bed, even though he's 13yo.

Either Black Beauty - what an amazing creature or Peter Rabbit for his bravery and brass neck!

Love the tiger who came to tea here, want him to turn up at my house!

I'm torn Confused I love Mog from the Judith Kerr books but most recently other fictional cats have gained my affections - the Butterfly Lion and Kasper from the Michael Morpurgo books.
Basically any fictional feline 😸

I always loved T.S.Elliots Macavity the mystery cat. The book of poems I haf showed so many expressions of cats and fictional personalities but I fell in love with Macavity. Perhaps because he seemed to have so much pezazz even to a five year old :-)
I hope to read these to my little one when he's older :)

Hairy McLairy fro Donaldsons Dairy of course!

He's such fun and the language in the books is just fabulous to read and clearly to listen to and recite as a kid too.

My favourite moment ever was when 2yr old DD1 got the rhyming thing at last - so the " rolicking her frolicking there rolicking frolicking everywhere" chorus in one of the books lead to this exchange

Me "rolicking here frolicking there , rolicking...." (pause for DD to finish it) lead to a deep toddler think and a joyful shout of " bollocking" :)

Mog is mine and my 3 year old favourite. I could read Mog books to her all day and we are currently watching the Sainburys Christmas advert on YouTube at her demand!

asuwere · 02/06/2016 09:38

Current favourite is the duck in The Highway Rat - such a clever duck who rescues everyone :)

itslookingbright · 02/06/2016 10:07

Moomins for me definitely, I loved the stories as a kid and I still love reading those stories for my own kids! Although moomins are not really animals but more like fictional creatures!

The mouse from little miss moppet, that takes the mickey at the end of the story by dancing a jig on top of the dresser.
My girls still quote that line and it makes us laugh.

The unicorn in unicorn dreams by Dyan Sheldon a beautiful story about a little boy who starts school with his imaginary unicorn. Everyone laughs at him except his teacher who knows its real

Winnie the Pooh, without a doubt

I forgot about Paddington, I think because I don't think of him as an animal Smile

Each child had their fav: eldest was clifford the big red dog, middle kid loved / loves peppa pig and the little one is obsessed by the gruffalo.

Getzbaby · 02/06/2016 22:06

Got to be the timeless classic Winnie the Pooh. My daughter has a cuddly Pooh bear. She didn't adopt a favourite teddy until she was about 1 and since then he has become a member of the family.

All of the animals from The Animals Of Farthing Wood. I read every book as a child, and had a soft spot for Fox. He was so cool!
