Hello,

We're thrilled that Holly Webb, who pens the beloved Animal Stories series, will be joining a stellar lineup of kids' authors at Mumsnet's Bookfest on 25 June (do take a look!).

In the run up to this unmissable family celebration of literature, we'd love to hear about your most-loved fictional animal of all time - be it pooch or pig (or ... spider?)

You'll be entered into a prize draw if you let us know here - one lucky MNer will win a bumper bundle of adorable Animal Stories books including Kitten Tales as well as Puppy Playtime sticker and activity as well as Perfect Puppies letter writing books!

Thanks! MNHQ

Paddington bear and now 2 year old ds does too.

Although at the minute he's got a 3 way tie with hairy maclary, the tiger who came to tea and mog!

Mr Toad in Wind in the Willows. Perhaps not the greatest role model but I loved him as a child.

We have a lot of 'made up' bed time stories involving an adventurous Jackalope. I am hoping to encourage a love of old myths in the next generation.

Yep, I loved Toad dressed as a washer woman to escape jail Smile

Do Wombles class as animals? If so I'd choose Orinoco!

But if it has to be an actual animal, I'm going with Aslan.

RikkiTikkiTavi. The ultimate hero!

PamelaPatricia · 01/06/2016 17:56

I loved Timmy the dog in 'The Famous Five' series. Blyton, rightly, considered him as important as the human amateur sleuths. His tenacity and 'nose' for trouble helped solve many mysteries.

Nighteyes from Robin Hobbs Farseer trilogy from an adult book. Whatamess from a children's book.

Has to be either Winnie the Pooh
Or
Elmer the elephant.

I love Bump the elephant but can't find anything with him on.

OhIfIMust · 01/06/2016 18:14

It's got to be the Tiger who came to Tea! No question!

BadgerFace · 01/06/2016 18:35

Black Beauty - what a horse!

Nothing beats Fawkes the Phoenix.

Adder from the animals of farthing wood. Always on the outskirts of the group, never quite welcomed by everyone and quite grumpy but true hearted and courageous when it came down to it.

icclemunchy · 01/06/2016 18:56

The Maltese cat, first read it when I was about 8 and still love it now. I happen to have a pony who reminds me very much of the cat

Lovelydiscusfish · 01/06/2016 19:02

Bigwig in Watership Down. Love him.

GooodMythicalMorning · 01/06/2016 19:23

Babe

CopperPan · 01/06/2016 19:28

I've loved Dumbo as a kid, not really a book character but I did have a Disney book based on the film.

NickyEds · 01/06/2016 19:36

Rupert bear, my teddy as a child was Rupert!

HindsightisaMarvellousThing · 01/06/2016 19:39

Pantalaimon and Kirjava. How I would love my own daemon.

Blizy · 01/06/2016 19:49

For me it's Aslan from the Lion Witch and the wardrobe.

SparklyPenguin · 01/06/2016 20:13

Dogtanian! He was a plucky pup, no mistake... Leaving his parents' home at such a young age to join up with the Muskehounds and protect the queen....aaaaah!!

mogloveseggs · 01/06/2016 20:32

The Water horse (dick king Smith)

jacrispy · 01/06/2016 20:48

Crookshanks and buckbeak

What-a-mess by Frank Muir. I thought it was lovely that he thought his name was that, because it was the first thing anyone said when they saw him! Grin Great, detailed illustrations too.

imposteracademic · 01/06/2016 20:58

Another Tiger that came to Tea. Also loved Timmy from the Famous Five. I had forgotten about What-a-mess.
