Is anyone else a devotee? - she wrote in the 60s and 70s, very subtle (and funny) novels, usually about middle aged unmarried women and their unrequited love for the local vicar.

I read BP 15 or 20yrs ago - I'd forgotten all about her! I must read them again and see if they are as I recall them. I thought they were good, back then.

I haven't read one for a long time, but loved them. Crampton Hodnett (?) was very funny and well written, I remember, as was 'Quartet in Autumn'.

I think what brought Barbara Pym to mind, was my observations on Zoe Heller's 'Notes on a Scandal' below. I keep thinking about the kind of book which BP would have written from the same plot and how much better it would be!
