Have we found our new Christian Grey?

Hi all,
Since we read Bloody Jude (Blanca Leigh) at book club a few weeks ago the girls and I have still continued to discuss this book... We've come to an almost unanimous decision that Jude is a new Christian Grey with a darker edge if that is possible!!!!!

This book caused so much debate and even if some didn't like it we all agreed the racy scenes and unreliable and erratic character of Jude was perversely attractive!!!

We would love to know what you think of Jude...and what you would recommend for our next read given that we like a bit of spice and a totally unpredictable protagonist...???? A sexy male protagonist that some of us just love to hate and fancy all in the one breath!!!!

Any ideas ladies? What's your thoughts on Jude???

If the book is suitable for a girls reading club (I assume you must mean teens for a dark/sexy theme) it does sound to me more like another iteration of Twilight, not heading for 50 Shades (though I suppose all the girls will have passed that round school just as we did with Lace).

No - not a teen book!!!!

Definitely more 50 Shades than Bella and Edward!!!! We refer to ourselves as "girls" North of the border despite having an average age of 40!!!!

We have not read Wuthering Heights as a group although I have personally and loved it!!!

Think the "girls" are however looking for another Christian - more "50 shades" than Twilight!

I reckon you wrote it. It doesn't even come up when you google it. You've started numerous threads about it. If you did and it's another load of mysoginistic shite a la twilight and fifty shades, which it sounds like, oh dear.

And just for the record most of us do NOT refer to ourselves as girls in Scotland.

Unfortunately I did not write it!!!! Just read it!!! We are looking for something similar! We have read a plethora of books from Marquez to Hislop but none created the same debate as Bloody Jude so we want to find another polemic title.. Something that makes our blood boil and race in equal measure.

Re "girls" - a term of endearment for friends just in the same way as "ladies" may be used. Apologies if this term caused offence! We are young at heart!!!

Ps - we downloaded it on Amazon!!! Was recommended by local librarian who knew a friend of the author's sister!!!

One to add to my avoid pile then, sorry but I only managed half way through 50 Shades before having to give up before hurling it through the nearest window in rage - I'm not looking for another wanker like Christian Grey ta

I've read this book! Liked it but didn't love... But have to disagree - not Christian as the female protagonist gets the better of him. I got it for free and on that basis was Good. Read in a night. Entertaining.

In terms of something controversial what about Perfume? Know it's old but gets people talking. Also We've Got to Talk About Kevin fab!!! Really hard to discuss but plenty to say..

Finally, for the record I am 40 something and would love to be called a girl!! Lol...
