Following on from Binker's pony book thread...I've been trying to rememebr what these books were that I must have read when I was about 8.

A young boy who magicly gets sucked through a window/mirror when the moon shines on it. He is transported back in time and transformed into a cabin boy on some old sailing ship, it may just have been a merchant ship, but pirates ring a bell. There were a few books in the series....

Any ideas?

DH often goes on about a series of pirate books called 'The Blue Pirate', 'The Red Pirate', etc. He says they were rubbish.

I can't ask him if it involved boy getting sucked through a window though, as he's on a conference call!

The blue pirate and red pirate books were part of the Griffin reading scheme which was used in schools until the mid-80s (I bet some schools still have the books).

They are not about a boy who gets sucked in through a window/ mirror. That doesn't sound at all familiar.

mamama - if they were Reading Scheme that would explain why DH thought they were as dull as ditch water!!!

You're right!

Gregory the Green begins:

The name of the green pirate was Gregory.
His name was Gregory the Green but everyone called him Greg... etc

It continues through the other pirates for pages until the story begins. Yawn..!
