Have read some of it but am finding it tedious and over descriptive. It has been recommended to me,but am starting to think life is too short.Correct me if I'm wrong!

If you find the book hard-going, try watching the film (think it was a tv adaptation).

WigWamBam · 05/01/2007 21:10

I hated it; thought it was very dull.

controlfreaky2 · 05/01/2007 21:10

Whizzz · 05/01/2007 21:10

Read this for English O Level a 100 years ago when O Levels were modern(!) and didn't really enjoy it but I think it was because we had to over explain and describe everything and pull it apart instead of reading it and enjoying it for what it was.

I thought the characters were dull.. Miss Fairlie was it? and Marion Halcombe I think. Ooh what a memory.

MariNativityPlay · 05/01/2007 21:18

I'd say yes, and motherinferior would grab you by the throat and implore you to keep going - it's a book that divides opinion but I think Wilkie Collins was a mad genius and the book gets better and more gripping as you go.

kbear-great memory!
well I will persevere for now, thanks for your opinions.

I read it years ago and don't remember anything except that I really enjoyed it.

CorrieDale · 05/01/2007 21:28

I thought it was great once I got into it. The Moonstone's better though.

SmileysPeople · 05/01/2007 21:31

YES YES YES IT'S FANTASTIC. THAT'S WHY I'M SHOUTING.

MrsBadger · 05/01/2007 21:31

no - save it for when you can sit down and read lots in one sitting. Doesn't repsond well to odd half hours here and there as there's so much description you forget the plot - I read it on a longhaul flight.

SmileysPeople · 05/01/2007 21:33

THEN BOOK A FLIGHT TO HONG KONG. NOW.

brimfull · 05/01/2007 21:33

good point mrs badger.May leave it now as only read it before falling asleep at night.
