Hello everyone! I'm fairly new to mumsnet and rather clueless so feel free to tell me off if a post like this is against the guidelines Blush I'm studying English and Creative Writing, and your answers (as long or as short as you'd like!) would be massively helpful in completing my graded unit! Thanks in advance :)

  1. What age are you?
  2. What's your gender?
  3. What is your favourite genre to read and why?
  4. If you have one, who is your favourite author and why?
  5. What's your favourite book and why?
  6. Do you like a story that involves a twist?
  7. Do you like cliff-hangers or do you prefer a conclusive ending?
  8. Do you think mental illnesses and learning disabilities should be featured more in short stories and novels?

Oops! I forgot to include a question!

3.5. Are there any sub-genres you enjoy?

Sending you a PM, April.

Create a survey using something easier to fill in, eg SurveyMonkey which is free to use, and then post the link instead. It's far easier for users to complete!

DaphneWhitethigh · 12/03/2016 17:23

I do agree that if you set yourself up a Survey Monkey account, (easy and free) you'd be able to attract more participants and collate the data more easily.

jamenhej · 12/03/2016 17:24

You can do surveys using Google docs / drive too, they're free!

AprilDHarvey · 12/03/2016 17:27

Thank you for the advice everyone and I'll get onto SurveyMonkey right now :) I'll probably ask to have this thread deleted and start a new one x

I've sent you a pm, too.

NewYearSameMe · 12/03/2016 21:41

If you're setting up a survey it might be good to allow multiple answers, for instance I like romance and sci-fi equally I couldn't choose a favourite between them.

AprilDHarvey · 12/03/2016 21:52

Thanks to those have pm'd me :) and that's a good idea NewYear, I'll be starting a new thread tomorrow as I didn't get in till late and I'm exhausted.

What about e-books, OP?

pepperrabbit · 13/03/2016 12:48

Completed Smile

SilverBirchWithout · 13/03/2016 12:52

Gender, I think you mean sex surely?

Jux · 13/03/2016 15:01

Would you like the people who pmed you to do that survey too so that you have all the answers in the same format? (It's Sunday, I have nothing much to do so I do actually have time for a second survey, I have no life Blush!)

pointythings · 19/03/2016 18:51

Completed that for you - some interesting questions there.

Trills · 19/03/2016 18:55

On the question of physical books vs audiobooks - where do ebooks come in?

Do you mean "written books that you read" vs "books that you listen to"?

Usually when people talk about "physical books" they mean "printed on paper" vs "electronic".

Doobydoo · 19/03/2016 18:58

Done

cressetmama · 24/03/2016 10:48

You need to include e-books; I read lots on my Kindle. Have done your survey.

gailforce1 · 24/03/2016 16:26

Have completed your survey.

Seaoftroubles · 28/03/2016 19:28

Done, but agree, you need to include e-books in the survey.
