Is this for real? and what do you reckon about it?

OP posts:
JackieNoHoHo · 22/12/2006 15:14

It was on the BBC too, so it must be true.

Quootiepie · 22/12/2006 15:14

I can't wait

DumbledoresFairy · 22/12/2006 15:21

I am glad to know that JK is feeling a bit uncertain about finishing the book. She needs to get it just right and I feel nervous for her that she is going to mess up.

Title is ominous to say the least...

Quootiepie · 22/12/2006 15:23

I do hope im not the only one thats gonna feel abit reading the last page, of the last book...

expatinscotland · 22/12/2006 15:29

He's going to die, Dumby. I'll send you a hankie in cyberspace .

I will be one of the saddoes queued up at midnight for the release.

My boss knows I'm having hte next day off, too, so I can read all night in peace.

santasaltire · 22/12/2006 15:30

I love reading her website, and i must be really sad as i get so excited by little things like this!
One of the fan sites i sometimes look at has some great photos from the film that WB released. helena Bonham carter looks great as Bellatrix

DumbledoresFairy · 22/12/2006 15:33

I will write JK hate mail if he dies. It would be such a depressing inappropriate ending for a book that was (originally anyway) aimed at children. Anyway, I am convinced 100% that Snape is going to cop it so I reckon Harry is fairly safe.

Quootiepie, you will not be alone. I have only been a fan for about 18 months but it seems longer. It will be awful to know you know all there is to know about Harry and his world, and there is nothing new to look forward to.

expatinscotland · 22/12/2006 15:34

'I'm your No. 1 fan'.

Don't do it, DF!

I won't write her anything.

I just wanna read the book.

I hope she kills him and spares the rest of us a bunch of crap 'sequels' from wannabe writers.

DumbledoresFairy · 22/12/2006 15:37

Yeah I want to be spared the crap sequels too. I agree with you there. But can't she register the name or something so people aren't allowed to use it? Otherwise, dead or not, someone will come up with a crappy prequel. Harry Potter: The Dursley Years or some such shite.

OP posts:
mumofmonstersNotActuallyHere · 22/12/2006 15:38

WB own the name harry potter now so she would need to kill him off

expatinscotland · 22/12/2006 15:40

I vote for her to kill him off.

Death is part of life. It's time people just accepted that instead of saying 'Oh, it's too depressing.' That makes no sense, considering it will happen to all of us at some point.

Kids need to learn about it, too, although HP books are 'children's books the same way Mark Twain's Huck Finn adventures are. Not really.

DumbledoresFairy · 22/12/2006 15:43

Yes, death is part of life. Could she just knock off Snape and say Hermione then please?

OP posts:
Quootiepie · 22/12/2006 15:52

For him to die would be abit predictable. I hope it isnt too fluffy though. I read the last one in a day I shall try and savour this one

JollyOldSaintNikkielas · 22/12/2006 18:05

I think he'll prob die just so noone else does follow ons, problem is the hero always has a happy ending in kids books

smittenkitten · 22/12/2006 18:18

i can't make my mind up if she will kill off Harry, though i'll be gutted if she deoes. one of the weasleys will cop it. don't think it will be Ginny as I can't believe she'd kill off everyone harry's ever loved.

she won't touch Hermione since she's her feminist conscience.

Hagrid has noble self sacrifice written all over him so he'll be a gonner.

i reckon lupin and tonks will survive.

can't wait!

whatwouldjesusdo · 22/12/2006 18:28

Im afraid the twins will cop it.
Snape will be the next head of hogwarts, though, once it is revealed that killing Dumbledore was all in the plan to get him near to Voldemort, so that he can help whoever to kill him.
I dont see how she can kill Harry, and maintain the christian message that the books seem to be aiming towards.

expatinscotland · 22/12/2006 22:30

Methinks one of the twins is going to cop it.

Hermoine's going to live and marry Viktor. B/c Ron and Harry are going to the Great Beyond, just like Sirius and James.

expatinscotland · 22/12/2006 22:30

Christian message?

HUH?

K, see this is why I think she should whack Harry.

expatinscotland · 22/12/2006 22:33

This is a formula known as a hero quest.

This is pagan in origin.

You know, King Arthur? Newsflash: Gwenevyre was NOT a virgin and she boinked Lancelot do Lac up and down everywhere in the earliest versions of this. Arthur abudcted her for another chieftain. What use would an infertile wife be to a chieftain? So they went for other peoples' 'wives', particularly those who'd proven they could bear sons.

TwoIfBySanta · 22/12/2006 23:26

For anyone interested here is the Scotsman article about it.

expatinscotland · 22/12/2006 23:28

Why do people feel the need to put in comments at the end of the article, ken?

Like, weirdos!

HaggisSupper · 24/12/2006 00:25

I don't think he'll die. Wasn't the prophecy that either him or Voldermort would have to die for the other to survive? So if they kill Harry that means Voldemort would have live on?

Or am I talking utter shite

expatinscotland · 24/12/2006 00:32

I think he's going the way of the dinosaurs, folks.

TwoIfBySanta · 24/12/2006 15:28

If you thought the comments on The Scotsman were mad then how about the hype just starting on Amazon.

Not only can you buy a book with no release date but feel free to comment!

expatinscotland · 24/12/2006 15:36

Oooo, I'm going to have a look at these once I've had a bevvie .
