Audiobook for a day in hospital

I'm going to have a little op soon, probably day surgery. Please recommend me an audiobook to listen to in the hospital.

I don't like anything scary or nasty, and I'm not overly interested in crime novels. OTOH it doesn't need to be fiction (just there isn't a generic 'books' topic).

Apart from what I listed above, I'm a fairly eclectic reader: I like history, science, classics, human relationships, fantasy, comedy, tragedy.

And I love listening to a good voice!

Any suggestions?

I'm reading Sweet Caress by William Boyd at the moment, and loving it. You might enjoy that as an audio book. Hope your hospital stay goes well :)

Bill Bryson's The Road to Little Dribbling is funny and light.

Oo I like Bill Bryson. I heard him at a live reading once, and he does it really well.

Thanks Smile

I listen often to Alan Bennett reading Untold Stories (several volumes). I just find it very calming. I'd also recommend Bill Bryson, especially "At Home" which he narrates himself and is about the history of how and why houses we live in have the rooms they do, iyswim! It's interesting and often very funny. Good luck.

On my way to a Bill Bryson I was sidetracked by Dominic West - or, more precisely, seduced by his lovely voice reading Remains of the Day. So, instead of listening to humour, I will be listening to a sad, gentle tale. Actually, I probably won't hear the story at all...I'll probably just float away on that gorgeous, mellow voice Smile

You know they're beaming Les lisaisons dangereuses to cinemas nationwide as part of NT live? Stars Dominc West, of course and has had rave reviews. This Thursday I think.
