Is it just me or has anyone else found this book just too long and a bit tedious in places? I wanted to love it as I'd seen some good reviews but it's not doing it for me. I've got up to 80% and feel quite liberated now that I've decided to abandon ship.

Late reply, but I also gave up about 60% into this too. I enjoyed the first third but then found it depressing and laborious. I am guessing because I didn't get that far that he has dementia? I thought his decline was well portrayed, but it went on too long and was painful to read.

I enjoyed this book, ISWYM about it being long and tedious, but to me it helped to convey how awful it must be dealing with a degenerative illness, and the only light at the end of the tunnel being the death of a loved one. I also liked the comparisons with the degeneration of the area they lived in as people moved out and new nationalities moved in.
