Can anyone recommend a book for a friend, she has low self confidence, and needs to be more assertive.

Her hubby unfortunately takes the mickey and doesn't help at home.

She has 2 lovely DD's, but the eldest is cheeky and disrespectful, when friend tried to deal with it and punish, her hubby is so unsupportive says its just her age (she 8) and if friend takes tv priviledges away etc, he will give them back to her totally undermining her as mother. I said she should read a self help book, but I don't know which to recommend. I worry very much about my friend who lives over 200 miles away from me, I know she is taking ad's for depression, would like her to find some self worth and kick some Arse.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Sorry I haven't recommend any self help books, hope you don't mind but I'll watch this thread as I think I could do with one myself!!

Does she have internet access? I'd recommend Mumsnet to anyone - just as good, if not better than a self-help book.

Thanks, yes she does have internet access and does regularly come and post on mumsnet.

These won't directly help her problems but might help her out of her rut in the first place:

Happiness Manifesto

Start singing in a relaxed, non-scary way Can't recommend this technique highly enough, everybody CAN sing, they just need to try! Making your own music does wonders for the soul.
