Or not ? What do other people think of it and is it worth me keeping it on my Xmas list- Please don't give away the story

Yes, well worth the time, but I like Maggie O'Farrell's books anyway. I shall say no more incase I do give anything away but it wasn't what I expected, in a nice way though.

Read it in 3 evenings & really enjoyed it. Bit difficult to follow (late at night) at times i.e. who the text referred to and by whom, but it all came together and I did guess what it was all about before the end which was a bit disappointing. I don't blame Esme for what she did at the end !
A very sad, sad story & one you can imagine happening a lot in years gone by. The way the author describes the scenes and experiences in the sanitorium made you feel as if you were actually witnessing them.
I'm sure half the teenagers in todays world would have ended up with the same fate as Esme.
