'light read' suggestions to distract me whilst waiting for baby

I'm having an elective c sec next week and will potentially have a bit of a wait in hospital before the op. Any suggestions for books with plots that may help to distract me? nothing too 'chick lit' , no crime/horror.currently reading The past but almost finished. TIA!

Last year I had a long wait for my day procedure under general anaesthetic and was very nervous. I took with me Ruby Wax's autobiography "How Do You Want Me?" This might sound like your idea of hell (?) but for me it was exactly the right mix of episodic anecdote and humour that did not require total focus. It fitted the bill when dealing with nurses and doctors doing observations and questionnaires and when my mind drifted off into panic! Best wishes for you and the baby.

Ann of Green Gables is a lovely easy read and the short stories of
F Scott Fitzgerald. They are utterly brilliant. The best and most wonderful short stories ever written in the English language IMO.

F Scott Fitzgerald's short stories are all the above but they are often pretty downbeat in tone.

You might like The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Forgotten who wrote it but it won't be hard to find. It's very gentle, written in letter format. As far as I can remember nothing bad happens and there's a happy ending. All quite light, easy and short - readable in a day.

Thanks for all the suggestions, they look interesting. Happy endings and light/short reads sound great. tobee i hadn't thought about an autobiography but i think that would definitely be a light/distracting option.
