Does anybody know of a children's book (maybe from the 1960s or 70s) set in the Great Fire of London? I think it had Pudding Lane in the title and
features a little boy running for his life. He hears someone crying but is too terrified to stop, but then his conscience gets the better of him and he goes back ...
He ends up running from the flames with a little girl and a baby he has rescued .... does this sound at all familiar? I'd love to find it and would be extremely impressed if anyone knows of it ....

I might never find out whether the children manage to outrun the flames .... (I only read an extract from the book and it was a long time ago, but it was gripping).

I remember reading the book "I am David" it has a very similar passage where he ends up saving the children from a burning shed. I Am David was set during WW2 so I'm probably talking rubbish.

Hope you find it. I haven't read John of Pudding Lane I'm afraid. I did a few searches on various sites using the info you posted, I'm very sad and love to dearch the internet.
