I really, really enjoyed this book. Literally held my breath during some of it.
Beautifully written, unpredictable and one of the best books I've read in a while.

Bloody hell that was scary! I started reading it at bedtime and finished about 2am (and was nearly too creeped out to get up for a wee...), it was really gripping and I couldn't put it down despite needing to get up at 6am!

The storyline was interesting and compelling, and I wanted to keep reading to find out what really happened as it was clear the characters were hiding things from each other. I thought the characters were believable and the description of the Scottish location was spot-on - I got the feeling the author really knew Skye well. The story was both sad and spooky (and the pictures at the beginning of each chapter made it even creepier!), and I liked the ambiguous ending. I would definitely read another book by this author!

Thank you for my copy of the book. I was really looking forward to reading this book as I’ve heard lots of good things about it. I enjoyed parts of it, especially the beginning, but unfortunately it did not live up to the hype. For me the storyline lacked intrigue and the spookiness hinted on the cover. The outcome was quite predictable as soon as the “twist” about the accident was revealed at the beginning so I didn’t get hooked on the story. I disliked the parents and found them too self-absorbed and not taking proper care of their daughters and the issues they were facing. I felt the whole personality issue with the twins was created by the parents’ behaviour at home and they should have taken their daughter to a specialist instead of running away from their life in London to an isolated Scottish island, which only made the situation worse. The description of the Scottish landscape was very enjoyable and it was almost what kept me reading. Unfortunately I did not find the story spooky and it lacked a good enough twist to keep me hooked.

Finished this last night - I found it hard to put down but I can't decide whether I liked it! I had minor irritations about the context (kids in school in Scotland aren't in 'year 1' or whatever it was described as, it would be 'primary 1' - I did say it was a minor irritation!) but enjoyed the island location.

I can't work out whether the whole thing hangs together and makes sense to me, but I did like the dawning realisation that none of the characters had a whole picture of what happened, even if they thought they did. I felt sorry for the daughter - no-one seemed to be supporting her through a very traumatic experience, her parents are too busy not coping themselves, and don't seem to have thought she might need some support too.

So I wasn't entirely sold, but needed to keep going to find out what happened next - there were enough twists to engage me. Don't think I'll be looking out anything by this author again, but if I spotted one in a charity shop I might well pick it up. Thanks for the opportunity to try something I wouldn't have picked up myself.

This book was a slow burn for me, but once I got into it, coupled with the foggy weather we've been having I was gripped. I find twins a bit creepy anyway and they played their confusing role brilliantly in the book. I enjoyed reading it from both the parents perspective and was pleased with the finality of the ending. A good read.

I don't think it's a spoiler to say that you realise early on that someone must be an unreliable narrator but it is managed well right to the end to keep the suspense as to who that is.

The concept of identical twins that not even the parents call tell apart is fascinating and protrayed beautifully and creates a lot of the page turning drive to the book. The portrayal of Skye is vivid and the descriptions of how the family settle there and the problems they face don't seem unrealistic given that the husband is from there/lived there previously. I'm never that keen on stories about people from the southeast moving into rural areas as they can feel patronizing (to locals - metro urban types wingeing about rural hardships) but this one handles it well.

I didn't particularly enjoy the last few chapters and felt some parts unbelievable but overall I enjoyed the book and it was a page turner.

Thank you for my copy of this book. I've not managed to read it yet, but am looking forward to starting it.

This was an enjoyable and at times gripping read, but two things spoiled it for me. The twist at the end was completely implausible and did not sound remotely in character of the person concerned - trying not to give plot away here! And the central theme of the book - that parents could not differentiate between their twins - was just nonsensical. Even with identical twins,one would have a mole or freckle or a tooth that was slightly different.

I'm in two minds about this book. It was a real page turner, I couldn't wait to get to the end and find out what had happened and what happened next but when I did I was disappointed and then afterwards decided it was all rather implausible and contrived.

So, it did keep me up reading into the small hours but ultimately left me disappointed. I would much rather have a book which I can put down at bedtime but which stays with me long after I've read it.
