When I was younger I read a story about a girl growing up in America. I think it was little house on the prairie, or maybe something similar. But it was set in the winter. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Does this sketchy plot ring any bells?
New born baby. Dad dreams/has a premonition about holding his baby in his arms when she is a few months old but she is sadly deceased. Thinks to himself how can he stop this? His answer is to make sure he never holds her again and to ensure this he ups and leaves to a different country. That's all I remember from the blurb.

Looby I think yours may be a book by Anthony Doerr, I think it's called About Grace.

I think the father dreams his daughter drowns and he can't save her, so he leaves his family to try and stop the dream coming true.
