Just that. Can be proper literature or supermarket chick lit. But I want to need tissues.

YY to attonement for tears.

Elizabeth is Missing made me absolutely sob, but I don't know if you need an elderly relative for that one too being on the tears or if it'll do it for anyone. Amazing book, really really good.

RingDownRingUp · 14/09/2015 20:52

Boy in Striped Pyjamas. Have never cried so much at a book.

Yy to Goodnight Mr Tom. Read it many times but always gets to me.

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 14/09/2015 20:54

Sarah's key

I Had to keep stopping to sob. Was on the train Blush

INeedNewShoes · 14/09/2015 22:24

Sister by Rosamund Lupton.

I sobbed on the tube reading this, which is not at all like me!

Kurtiz · 14/09/2015 22:37

The End of the Affair - Graeme Green
The Road - Cormac McArthy
Captain Correlis Mandolin - name escapes me
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini (not the film!)
Dumbo. I know its a film, but I can't even think about Dumbo.

featherandblack · 14/09/2015 22:39

Little Women, obviously.

Kes.

featherandblack · 14/09/2015 22:39

Oh yes, Goodnight Mr Tom is a killer.

PetraDelphiki · 14/09/2015 22:41

WHen the wind blows...bawled my eyes out!

LittleGreyBear · 14/09/2015 22:46

The Light Between Oceans. I can't remember the author though. Definitely worth a read.

Glowlamp · 14/09/2015 22:50

A man called Ove - lovely book. Soaked my pillow sobbing.

featherandblack · 14/09/2015 22:56

My DH sobbed his way through The Book Thief recently.

Marley and Me is actually tragic.

I also sobbed through The Yearling many moons ago.

PermetsTu · 14/09/2015 22:57

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.

The Light Between Oceans
All the Light We Cannot See
Sarah's Key
The Girl on the Cliff
Me Before You
The Casual Vacancy

All been suggested but agreeing!

HarrietVane99 · 15/09/2015 23:17

Whoever recommended Five Children..... Just read it. Loved it, but yes really weepy in places. Must re-read the originals now.

BringMeTea · 19/09/2015 01:12

If The Spirit Moves You by Justine Picardie
Blue Light by Joan Didion
These are non-fiction. They WILL make you cry.

ALassUnparalleled · 20/09/2015 03:03

Goodness I must be hard hearted Mr Pip and The Kite Runner just irritated me.

Atonement is the only one mentioned which made me cry.

The Grapes of Wrath was so sad I don't think I could re-read it.

Or either of Ann-Marie Macdonald's Fall on Your Knees or The Way the Crow Flies.

It's a short story but Guy de Maupassant's Boule de Saif.

HopeClearwater · 22/09/2015 23:39

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.

Another vote for Kes.

Lovely to see a pp mention Willy Russell's The Wrong Boy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/09/2015 18:45

Not read the whole thread, so apologies for overlap. These made me howl (some more than once!):

The Book Thief
The Kite Runner (hate his other books though)
The Harry Potter books from the 5th one onwards
King's Dark Tower series - big, real tears over and over again
Goodnight Mr Tom
The Grapes of Wrath (have never been able to bring myself to re-read it)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/09/2015 18:49

Just read the thread and have ordered, 'Five Children on the Western Front.' Fingers crossed for a good weepy read!

hollyisalovelyname · 27/09/2015 09:28

Gone With The Wind
The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

Optimist1 · 27/09/2015 09:50

Another vote for A Man Called Ove, which had me laughing out loud at points where I wasn't choking back the tears. A really brilliant book.

southeastdweller · 27/09/2015 12:17

Forgot about a couple - The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, and The Help.
