If I like Mike Carey, Kate Griffin, Ben Aaronovitch, who else would I like?

I had some suggestions on the "Satanic children's books" thread which has been deleted, and now can't see them Sad. Neil Gaimin was suggested, anyone else? Not so fussed on the ghost/demon side of things, but I really like the style of the heroes, and the laidback-ness of the writing.

I can absolutely recommend The Dresden Files series of books by Jim Butcher.
(I love Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London series!)

I second The Dresden Files! Also love those other author's. Have a particular crush on Felix Castor Grin

Other Urban fantasy authors I like are:

Justin Gustanis' Morris & Chasten books
Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid Chronicles
Benedict Jacka's Alex Verus books
Richard Cadrey's Sandman Slim books.

Mimigolightly · 10/09/2015 13:34

Oh, and Louise Welsh's Plague Times books are also good.

SoupDragon · 10/09/2015 13:35

Another vote for Benedict Jacka.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 10/09/2015 13:39

brilliant, thanks everyone, Benedict Jacka came up on my "other people have bought this" list on Amazon, so now in my shopping basket.

Can offer you Mike Ripley's Angel series for another 'slightly scruffy, slightly dodgy but with good intentions' hero, AND a fuck-off cat. Was v sad when those finished.

Just ordered Mike Ripley's Just Another Angel.

I hate it when a good series of books finishes - I feel almost bereft for some characters.

SoupDragon · 10/09/2015 15:50

Jon Rosenberg's Hidden Academy series was enjoyable with a less than perfect hero.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 14/09/2015 01:50

Charles Stross "Laundry Files" series.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 14/09/2015 09:08

Pom - weirdly I've just started the first one of those Grin. I'm going to have to read with phone next to me to google an idiot's guide to all the maths/computer science though, as there a lot of technical stuff in there.

I just ignore that and put it down to "magic shit he can do and I can't" :D Works for me Grin
