I am a big fan of the books and the films. I always wondered what might have happened in the 19 year gap and went searching online for something.
I discovered fanfiction!

Anyone know of any good ones?

You could try Harry Potter and The Methods of Rationality which is an alternate world fic. It's a million words long and not to everyone's taste to put it mildly, but you've nothing to lose by giving it a try for a couple of chapters.

Are you looking for anything particular? Short and funny? Long and meaningful? There's been various threads recommending HP fanfic on here (mainly harry potter threads - try this one )
A few things I've read recently - This is an interesting take on 'what if they lost', this is a rather nice nextgen story, this is just silly as is this.

"you've nothing to lose by giving it a try for a couple of chapters."

Yes, you do. Hours of your life. It's very absorbing. Don't read it on your phone screen!!

I'd recommend 'Dumbledore's army and the year of darkness' is excellent. It's the story about what happened at Hogwarts during the Deathly Hallows book, told from Neville's point of view. It's very good. It's easy to find if you google it.
Also there is loads of good fan fiction on mugglenet.com.

AJ Hall's LoPiverse - easy to find.
Copperbadge, reliably good on HP

The Shoebox Project. Really brilliant.

The Shoebox Project was on (the now pretty much defunct) Livejournal, but it's available in PDF on Tumblr:

Not sure whether it still exists, but there was an impressive, plotty, novel-length dystopian post-HP fiction called 'Chaos is Come Again' by someone who posted on LJ as theatresm. Main characters Snape (who didn't die) and Hermione, and the plot is set after the end of the series (but was written before it ended, hence Snape not dying) and deals with the Wizarding world gone authoritarian and fascist and forcing Wizarding purebloods to marry and breed, so Hermione suggests she and Snape marry to keep the law off their backs and investigate some horrible experimental goings on by the Wizarding establishment.
