A long time ago - really loved it.

Nit keen.

Based on absolutely nothing except the title I was expecting a really cerebral modern novel set....behind the scenes at a museum, with erudite characters and possibly intrigue. So. Disappointed on that score.

I found the "twist" really predictable (Pearl) and it really just left me cold.

It's the only Kate Atkinson I've ever been able to finish and even then I felt a bit narked by the twist.

I adored it. Thought it was beautifully written and realised and offered a unique perspective on motherhood and daughterhood. I really enjoy Kate Atkinson's writing, apart from the digression into Jackson Brodie. I love her sense of humour and her respect for the histories of ordinary people and ordinary lives.

I loved it! Has anyone read it recently, because I have a question about one of the details?

The dialogue seems so clumsy, to me.
And the storytelling from the point of view of the child - "I exist!" - very tricksy.
In a way it reminded me of the French "nouveau roman' movement in that it felt experimental in some ways.
I also hate French nouveau roman books.

I never warmed to a single character which left me feeling very distant from what is a highly emotional and sentimental story.

Yes really enjoyed it. Found it a very easy read.

I loved it, and I have loved all her books. She is just so readable....

I read it years ago and loved it. I've read a lot of books in my time and it really stands out.
