Just finished this. Has anyone else read it? Do you find the 2 main characters v. creepy and Barbara especially quite sinister?

Yep, thought it was good (but not really of Booker standard though it made the shortlist I think)

loved it. a while since I read it so can't remembe all the nuances. felt a bit like a modern attempt at jane austen - sniping about the characters through the narrator, gradually creeping through.

Got this in my book drawer waiting to be read.

Tinker · 04/05/2004 16:24

I'm going to treat myself to this this week I think - don't give anything away please.

Agree with the Countess. Not of the highest quality but a good read nevertheless. Won't say more or will spoil it for Tinker and Demented.

Well, I've finished it and I enjoyed it. Both main characters pretty dislikable but found myself agreeing with some aspects of both of them - bit worrying really.

I'm reading this now, after waiting for it to come out in paperback. I have to say although it is quite a good read, I feel that the characters are caricutures and not particularly subtle. I had expected something a bit more 'clever'.

Demented · 28/05/2004 23:32

I'm about halfway through this now and really enjoying it. A really easy read.

Just finished this. It became very gripping and I couldn't put it down. 10 out of 10, would definately recommend this for someone who wanted an easy read but wasn't looking for anything too bland or jolly. I was concerned when I started reading the book that it would be all about the affair which I didn't relish reading about but was pleased and surprised to find the book mostly focused on the darker side of friendship. Maybe just my mood today but it really gripped me. Read it!

Read this a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it. I quite like books where there is no obvious "goody" and "baddy".

Have you read anything by Adriana Trigiani? I've read Big Stone Gap and Lucia, Lucia - made both me and dh cry!
