I've just got a kindle for my holiday Friday - and I need to load it up (optimistically given the 2 toddlers accompanying us on the trip)

What do you recommend?

I like all sorts of things - not really lightweight chick lit and nothing about world wars, but stories about people really. I've splashed out on the mumsnetters published books from a recent thread in chat, but need MORE!

What can you recommend?

First thing that springs to my mind is The Paying Guests, by Sarah Waters.

Somerset Maugham; Jane Austen; sherlock Holmes stories?

Loads of classics are free on kindle - Jane Austen, the Brontes, Dickens, Trollope and so much more.

The Paying Guests isn't free though, it's £9.50 Shock

If you're prepared to pay for 99p books as well as free ones you have much more choice.

If your Kindle can read PDF files then you can get lots of free classics from Project Gutenberg
Www.Gutenberg.org

Sorry - my mistake for not reading the title of the thread properly. Having just looked at the Top 100 free Kindle books, sadly there's none on there that I've read and can recommend.

Thanks for comments - I've been pushing that boat out and getting some 99p ones too. It is just hard to know what is any good.

Iam normally a library book girl where it doesn't matter as they are all free, but I am otherwise very tight
