She's not a particularly brilliant reader, has just got into it really, and read all of dd1's Horrid Henry books. I'm looking for some suggestions for good books around that level (I think she still needs illustrations to keep her interested!)

Dick King-Smith has some fabbos, miaou.

The Hodgeheg is hilarious (and educational) and I bet dd2 would love the Sophie stories (though I'm not sure if they are read-aloud at her age, rather than read-herself).

Oo-er, have just remembered I was going to send you some of ours a long time ago - they are still in a box with your name on (ie Miaou, lol)

I have a lot of Walker early readers - big print, lots of pics - which I will bang off to you tomorrow if you send me your new address

Miaou · 06/11/2006 21:24

Oooh Jan, you absolute star!!! I will email you forthwith

We've got the Sophie books but some other Dick King-Smiths might be a good idea - thanks!

Miaou - has she spent the voucher already?
DSs are loving these books (recommended by Cod). The second has been shortlisted for the Blue Peter book awards.

Grk books by Joshua Doder
NOTE: They are aimed at 7-11 yr-olds; despite the (younger) impression given by the covers. Both my two (7 and 9) love them.

Also: Cressida Cowell's How to train your dragon, etc. These books are fabulous. They look like Horrid Henry (lots of silly cartoons etc.), but are much funnier than HH, and far superior writing quality to HH. IMHO

Miaou · 14/11/2006 22:18

Ooh just seen this roisin - no she hasn't spent them yet

Will get her to look at the first link - we have had the cressida cowell ones out from the library.

She is animal mad so I'm wondering about suggesting some non-fiction books on animals - particularly snakes.

Thanks for the suggestions!
