Can anyone help me identify this book?

It's infuriating me that I cannot remember the title of a series of books I read as a teenager.
I think it was a trilogy and it involves a girl being sent to live in the country with an uncle(?).

There were two or three brothers, and she ended up marrying two of them I think. The first was a pilot in WW1 and was killed doing a loop the loop, and the second was maybe a mechanic? The uncle was in a wheelchair and pretty unpleasant but hugely into horses and hunting and a big deal was made of the fact that she took so well to riding when Pilot Brother was too scared.

I vaguely recall a black velvet riding habit which I thoroughly coveted.

I loved the Flambards books! Especially Edge of the Cloud :)

Ahhh Flambards. Loved that when I was a teenager. There was a TV series too, must have been about 1978-80.

Flambards - now that takes me back to Friday evenings in front of the TV with my mum, a packet of crisps and a coke float - that's coca cola with ice cream in it for those who don't know!

I lived for those Friday evenings back then.

And now I want to thank PetrovaFossil1 for starting this thread, as it has prompted me to see if I can get a copy of the book!

I want to read it again too now, I loved those books.

Loved Ballet Shoes too Smile

The final fourth book is just all kinds of wrong though

itstheyearzero · 28/04/2015 08:14

Oh my yes Flambards! Friday evening after Brownies my Mum would send me to the chip shop and we would eat fish and chips whilst watching. Happy memories :)

Takver · 28/04/2015 08:16

It's brilliant but I agree, the 4th one was just terrible. It made me really dislike Christina and I just don't think it was true to the characters at all. She would have stayed happily ever after with Dick!

So in my head book 4 never happened. Happy days!

And I agree - book four was a travesty. It was written years later too.
