I've recently read the book thief and was totally gripped.
I loved this style of fictional writing and want to read something similarly as gripping. Any suggestions?

Have look at Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

If you want a very long novel, how about Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. It's my current read and I'm loving it - it's well written and utterly gripping.
