Decent Erotic fiction

Any recommendations of decent, well written erotic fiction? I can't bear the sheer appalling-ness on every level of 50 Shades of Abuse Grey and the whole BDSM thing leaves me somewhat cold but haven't really read anything of the erotic genre beyond pretty terrible "romance" shite so I'm open to suggestions.

Anais Nin. Agree with you about 50 Shades, haven't read it and have zero desire to!

Story of o is a classic some s&m but mostly well written.

Never understood why this book is considered a "classic" other than it has been in print and read for a long while - which now that I think of it is probably enough. I don't remember the writing as being bad (of course it is a translation into English) but it certainly didn't impress me as great or even very good writing.

And the Story of O is ALL S&M. if you are not into S&M - and the OP sounds like she isn't, don't read it. it is way more hard core than 50 shades. Way more into treating women as objects/owned by men/nothing without men etc. If I remember correctly O being nothing was the entire point of the novel.

Telling someone who didn't like the appallingness of the abuse in 50 shades that she will like Story of O because it is "better written" astonishes me - this isn't the first place I've read that particular recommendation either.

Agree, Anais Nin

My Secret Garden by Nancy Friday.

The Emmanuelle books are surprisingly well written. Just don't watch the execrable films.

Story of O is jaw-dropping, proper BDSM. After that I felt 50 shades was probably pretty meek and never bothered.

Also The Secret/Sexual (?) Life of Catherine Millet which is written by a French art historian about her experiments in swinging.

Go French basically.

As an aside my brother had a flick through 120 Days of Sodom (de Sade) and he said it is absolutely, properly bonkers. The phrase 'encunting an owl' sprung out at him.
