What can I read that is Chandler-esque please?

Have you tried Dashiell Hammett?

Only, 'The Maltese Falcon' which I didn't think was a patch on Chandler. Would you recommend any specific ones?

DH has read all Chandler books and recommends the author Ross MacDonald - his Lew Archer series are very good apparently Ross Macdonald
