Just finished Wolf by Mo Hayder and once again am completely freaked out by the story. I like/dislike The Walking Man and he just makes me think about things I rather wouldn't. I mean, the way he applied his life to searching.

However, I remember reading Tokyo and having to put the book out of my eyeline because it was terrifying me. I still read the full book.

She is a right scarey woman and I look forward/tremble at her next book.

Sorry, should have asked if anyone else enjoys/runs away from her books?

I don't know her or anything about her really, but her books are horrifying.
Still read them all, yes, I am a glutton for punishment.

Have you read Birdman?

I haven't read wolf (or poppet actually) but have read the rest of the jack caffery series and have both thoroughly enjoyed and been rather terrified of them at the same time. What did you think of Poppet? Is it a good continuation of the series? (desperately needing something to read and you've just reminded me of this author thanks!)

Really really really don't like her.

Toyko.. and the one with regards to the troll wasit/The man who abused children and at one place had forced the father to attck his own child or have the child killed.. was that the same boko where the girl was abducted and taped to a table that had a pot ofcream on it where she was mulltiple attacked, vomited into the tape that waswrapped round her head and died..?

It's just really shoitty torture porn / shock tactics.. she's some major figure for this horror porn... how much does she earn from this shlock horror writing? Love to know how much she puts as charitable donations to the groups affectedby what she seems to use as fodder for her books

The first one with the tokoloshe properly terrified me, and I don't scare easy. There's something just so unsettling about some of her books.

buddha I enjoyed Poppet but it didn't grab me as such...worth a read but I didn't think it was as good as some of the earlier ones.

Her books are so dark but I enjoy them. Birdman still sends a shiver down my spine and I also like that they're based near Bristol which is kind of local to me!

Poppet is great, a great twist and sweet ending.

Torture porn is right.

Pig Island did it for me tbh.

I find it quite disturbing to think of somebody sitting at their desk, coming up with these plot lines and descriptions. But I think the same about horror movies and violent games tbh.

Joyce are you a crime fiction fan? If so wouldn't mind a few recommendations that perhaps dont have quite the shock scenes of Mo Hayder but still crime (yes I may struggle to go to sleep after reading some of her things) sorry for the hijack OP!

pacific I haven't read Pig Island, is that one of hers that is a stand alone and not part of the Jack Caffery series? by the sounds of things it's quite disturbing!

And it has a rather far-fetched twist. I am more than happy to suspend my disbelief in the interest of a good story, but was a bit ….

I love a bit of horror( I have ordered the house of leaves from the library on mumsnet recommendation of a terrifying book!)

i don't really like crime fiction or tv stuff... it was the creepy angle I think my SIL was thinking of but it was just nasty when I read it.

She must be loaded and trawls easy shock tactic subjects for her stuff when it is so OTT it's just awful.

Try Denise Mina - love her stuff.

Try John Connolly - quite scary, but more from a religious/spiritual angle.

I love Mo Hayder books too, they have mellowed considerably and I like jack caffrey and the walking man.

I've been enjoying Belinda Bauers books- crime novels set around a small village on Dartmoor. Nowhere near as gruesome as mo Hayder, but I like the characters involved. Also looking for new crime author recommendations!

I read a john connelly book... was it the book of lost things... loved it!

Weirdly, Tokyo is one of the fake books on all the bookshelves at my local Ikea. I always think that's really weird whenever I go there.

Just finished birdman. It was quite scary and after seeing that the next in the series has children in it I won't risk it and will leave her books there I think. Always loved val mcdermid wire in the blood books but guess they are maybe a bit old now.

Oh, Val McDermid is v good.

I can (and have) read and reread her books several times.

Pig Island and Birdman are both foul but I read them. I may avoid in the future.

As a bit of light relief I am now reading The Rosie Project. I will sleep easier tonight :).
