Has any or you read this book, its getting super reviews but i am just not enjoying it, now its exactly the type of book and story i love, anything set in Germany and world war 2, but its the writing style i cannot warm to; maybe my kindle ecopy is not right as it has the name and title written up on each page and it is so distracting. Does anyone know what Maria s father;s name is i have forgotton and who is that man looking for the stone, that will tell you how lost i am I have actually given up on it twice and read other books but feel compelled to go back to it and it has got such good reviews.

I read it, liked it but without being blown away. We hear her Dad's name at some point, but its not really that important, you always know who's being spoken about.
Mind you I did the same as you - read 1 or 2 other books in the middle of reading it :-).

I've looked at this book so many times on Amazon and read reviews on Goodreads. Mostly people seem to like it and yet there's just something about it, and I don't know what it is, that's making me not want to read it. It should be the sort of book I'd love. And yet - persuade me I should read it :)

It was £1.99 for kindle on Amazon yesterday so decided for that I'd give it a punt. Won't get to it for a while though so won't be much use trying to persuade you, Duchess!

in the interest of balance, this is one of my fav books of last year, wouldnt normally go for the war thing but amazon told me to and for once they got it right!

Popflos, What did you like about it? did you enjoy the style of writing or the story? i enjoy Colm McCann and Maggie O Farrell and they have a unique style that i like but this was just one i did not enjoy and i came to that conclusion pretty quick and i was not happy with that as i wanted to like it.
