Elizabeth Is Missing

I couldn't see a thread on this book - apologies if there is one and I have missed it.

I thought this was such a clever idea, I don't think I have come across a book before told from the point of view of someone with dementia. I found it really absorbing - at times heart breaking and frustrating. Even occasionally funny. And I really came to care about the characters.

I can defintiely recommend it and would like to here other people's views on this.

Remarkable I think that this is a first novel. (I think it is her first)

The way she gets into the thought processes of the main character without ever descending into parody or being patronising.

My sil met the author a few times and she said she is a really lovely person. She wrote some of the book in a big supermarket cafe my sil works at.

I loved the book.

Was glad to find this thread as I'm finding the book hard to get into. Will persist.

Brilliant book. Just finished it

I am reading it and finding it a bit dull and repetitive. I shall persevere.

I didn't bother Annie, I guess it just wasn't the book for me.

I have just finished it , I Found it really compelling and quite frightening in a haunting sort of way .I really drawn in by her constant confusion and on a personal note could relate to the very annoying brother who lives abroad and doesn't appreciate the depth of the problem .

I liked it, and then read still Alice, which gives such a different view of dementia. I realise that one was looking at early onset, so is different, but I don't think that Elizabeth is missing really got to how horrible the disease is, and treated it all as a bit of a joke.

I worked with older people with dementia and I thought the portrayal of it in Elizabeth is Missing was quite accurate.

With Elizabeth I felt the confusion and it helped me understand the flashbacks to the past and how muddling occurs. MIL totally fine right now but her father, two uncles and aunt (brothers and sisters) died of Alzheimer's and I think this book might help me be more compassionate when the time comes. Hoping she has different genes though :-/
