The Dexter series...does it get better?

I had a kindle for Christmas, as well as some Kindle vouchers. Some of the books I downloaded were the Dexter series (I had seen the first series and liked it, and heard the books were better).
I read the first two which I enjoyed, but Im struggling with the third. Im getting a bit 'meh' about the writing style (for example, the writer uses the same phrases, pretty much verbatim, in the books to describe his and Rita's relationship and her past relationship), he seems to have identified the children as killers and began training them quite quickly and and the 'whodunnit' hints arent exactly subtle (the 'watcher' having a bull on his car...so we know he probably did it, just waiting to tie it together).
I feel quite disappointed after the first two books, so, does it get better, should I stick with it? (I'm at the point in Dexter in the Dark where they have just discovered the heads)

I'd bin it off now. The series is definitely better. You've probably read all you need to of Dexter now - it's all a bit formulaic after a while.

I enjoyed them, Dexter gets more and more unlikeable as they go on.
