Book Club?

There is only one in our local area and its miles away and meets once a month.

Would it be completely bonkers to try to set one up myself? Has anybody ever done this?

I don't think that's completely bonkers! I set-up the book group I'm in which has been running for 5 years. I asked friends and they asked some friends too and it has evolved. We started with around 6 members but I'd say the best number is 8-10 to allow for those who can't make it but still get a decent discussion about the book.

I will join if you live near me!

I've been involved with a couple of 'postal' book clubs and two on Mumsnet - you post the book round and either send a notebook to add your comments or post comments on line. It can work if the others in the group are motivated enough to keep it going.

I actually prefer it to the RL book clubs I've belonged to which have just evolved into general social chit chat - nothing wrong with that but just not what I wanted in a book club. Grin.
