Thread one of the 50 Book Challenge.

The idea is to read 50 books (or more!) in 2015.

Who's in for this year?

OP posts:
Nearlyadoctor · 31/12/2014 22:25

Would love to join, fairly new to mumsnet and have spent too many evenings in the past few months shopping/ FB etc on the iPad.
Just downloaded The Other Boleyn Girl onto my kindle so will start with that tomorrow.

acsec · 31/12/2014 22:26

Yes please, I lost my list last year, but am sure I did better than 2013.
My 1st book will be The Girl with Glass Feet by Ali Shaw, I'm really enjoying it.

Rugbylovingmum · 31/12/2014 22:41

Thanks Jingleybells, I'll start with Harold Fry then and look forward to getting on to the Rosie Project soon.

Kakaka · 31/12/2014 22:49

I'm in. I'm half way through the First 15 lives of Harry August which was recommended on another thread.

I have very eclectic tastes so will enough getting some more tips here!

Morrigu · 31/12/2014 22:50

I liked The Road cruik and actually enjoyed the movie too which rarely happens. Just worth remembering its one of those books nothing much happens. Tbh you and I seem to share similar tastes as the ones you mentioned are my favourites, bar the usual Brave New World, I Am Legend, The Time traveller and 1984. The Circle was an ok easy read recent one in the last year. I've read Cloud Atlas three times myself.

Oh that's good Remus as its been one I've meant to read for years but never got round to. Suppose I'll have to watch Blade Runner after it Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/12/2014 22:54

Must admit that I've never seen, 'Bladerunner.'

Somanyillustrations · 31/12/2014 22:55

I've just started We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. Ok so far. I have a pile of 20 or so books next to the bed, and untold numbers of unread books dotted around the house. Read next to nothing in 2014, so need to pick up the habit again.

ChillieJeanie · 31/12/2014 23:00

I'm in again. In 2015 I intend to read more non-fiction, which always takes me longer than fiction so I don't think I will get through as many as I did this year.

Pasithea · 31/12/2014 23:03

Marking lol

tessiegirl · 31/12/2014 23:15

I would love to join please! Managed to read 40 books in 2014 so would like to improve upon that. Going to start 'One Step Too Far' by Tina Seskis. I absolutely love reading and recording how many I read, fantastic hobby

Lochdubh · 31/12/2014 23:17

Oooh so exciting, I'd like to join please. My 2015 plan is to make up for some of my dodgy education and read some of the books I should have read. I've just started Little Women.

frogletsmum · 31/12/2014 23:58

Whoops, sorry Remus! Haven't even started on the bubbly yet!

ConcreteElephant - I loved The Signature of All Things - one of my faves of last year. Hope you enjoy it.

Happy New Year all Grin

Happy New Year everyone!
I am hoping to read more this year as well.
Can I count booms I am listening to on Audible whilst commuting (2.5 hours a day!).
I am starting with Perfect by Rachel Joyce (enjoyed Harold Fry a lot).
On Audible I have Lancaster and York The war of the roses by Alison Weir

antimatter · 01/01/2015 00:23

*booms=books Grin

CoteDAzur · 01/01/2015 00:48

Ooh shiny new thread + many new recruits! Happy new year everyone Grin

MegBusset · 01/01/2015 01:26

Claiming the first finished book of the new year :)

  1. Between Heaven And Earth - Gaston Rebuffat
My Christmas present from DH - an out-of-print classic by my favourite Alpinist. Amazing and inspiring commentary and photographs, as ever.
ShanghaiDiva · 01/01/2015 01:39

Finished 2014 on 92 books. First one this year will be the Henry Marsh brain surgery book which has been short listed for the Costa award.
Happy new year!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 01/01/2015 02:15

I'm in.

Currently reading The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber. Already decided my next read will be Confessions of Sociopath.

I generally read crime, thriller and some horror novels (SK only really, there aside from some classics and occasional ghostly stories). Kathy Reichs, Ian Rankin, John Connolly, Karen Rose and Stephen King etc but planning on mixing it up a bit this year as it can become a bit tedious and ends up with periods of reading tonnes of books with no gap followed by not being bothered, so any recommendations would be welcome Smile

teadog · 01/01/2015 02:24

Now finishing The Photographers Wife, can't decide what's next. Newbie here :-)

DuchessofMalfi · 01/01/2015 07:03

Antimatter - I include audiobooks in my book count.

I don't have a long daily commute, but use them to accompany long walks and whilst I'm cooking or doing jobs around the house.

And I've also got Alison Weir's book about the Lancasters and Yorks on audio. Will probably be my first audio book of the year - something educational to get me started Smile

HoldenCaulfield80 · 01/01/2015 07:07

I'm in! Am starting with We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves.

athousandsplendidsuns · 01/01/2015 07:17

Ooh yes me too....just about to start the rosie effect having enjoyed the rosie project last year.....

CaptainJamesTKirk · 01/01/2015 08:04

I'm in. I spend far too much time online nowadays instead of reading. I'm going to be starting with...

  1. Solar by Ian McEwan
ShakeItOff2000 · 01/01/2015 08:13

Happy New Year everyone! I'm in! Lurked last year and got some great recommendations. Didn't manage 50 books- only 34 and probably won't manage much more than that what with 2 young boys, working and studying. But I love reading and enjoy recording what I read.

Currently listening to City of Veils whilst commuting in the car - it's okay. Last book was Lexicon - loved the concept but found it a bit relentlessly depressing and not too keen on the ending. Not sure what to read next. Have bought lots of new Kindle books and have a stack of real books to read. Decisions, decisions..
