Thread one of the 50 Book Challenge.

The idea is to read 50 books (or more!) in 2015.

Who's in for this year?

OP posts:
IsabellaofFrance · 31/12/2014 20:31

Have been waiting for a shiny new thread. Count me in for 2015.

Have kicked off tonight with The Saffron Kitchen - very good so far.

DuchessofMalfi · 31/12/2014 20:35

Me too. Book 1 will be Paula Byrne's Jane Austen : A Life in Small Things.

whippetwoman · 31/12/2014 20:37

I am in! Can't wait for another year of reading. 2015 is going to be better than ever and I am excited to be starting again. Am aiming to beat 83.
Thanks for the new thread Southeastdweller
Off for some bubbly now Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/12/2014 20:37

Hello, hello.

I have a couple of shiny new exploration books, plus, 'The Wild Places' by Robert Macfarlane on my Kindle. I've got, 'Queen Lucia' too but can't get into it.

EleanorRugby · 31/12/2014 20:38

Can I join too please? I'm new, I wasn't part of the 2014 thread but am keen to try to meet the challenge!.
I have just started Shock of the Fall and I am really enjoying it so far. Prior to that I re-read Restoration by Rose Tremain which I first read about 10 years ago.

MrsCurrent · 31/12/2014 20:40

Sounds just what I need to focus on, I used to read a lot but don't when I'm stressed, ok if I read trash or do I have to start with The Odyssey?

minsmum · 31/12/2014 20:43

I'm in for this year , really looking forward to it as I didn't read much last year and I have a mountain of books looking at me in an accusatory manner

Sonnet · 31/12/2014 20:45

Great shiny new thread! Just started Tintagel Rising as still on a Cornish theme. I then have to get on with Love Nina as have book group on Tuesday.

Want to try new authors in 2015

WipsGlitter · 31/12/2014 20:48

I'm in. Am reading We Are All Completely Besude Ourselves. Will still be reading to tomorrow. It's ok. Not loving it and having to use my kindle dictionary feature a lot with it!

MollyMaDurga · 31/12/2014 20:55

I'm in, wel popping in and out as i did last year as well i suppose. Hopefully a bit more in this year though as i mostly lurked. I read 61 books but I'm not in it for the race towards a target, i read anyway, but loved the recommendations. I've got quite a busy year as I'm a (mature. . As in old) student and have a lot of reading to do for that.
Starting of with non fiction, I'm reading Michael Lynch's New history of Scotland but I will probably read some fiction alongside. Just finished the Bone Clocks which was okay but not add good as Cloud Atlas.

whatwoulddexterdo · 31/12/2014 20:59

Yes please. I dropped off the 2014 thread, even though I read 50+. Just not very good at recording.
Am starting with Us by David Mitchell. Not sure of the diary style so far....
Won it in a mumsnet competetion so will persevere.

itsonlysubterfuge · 31/12/2014 21:03

I love reading. I'm not sure how much books I actually read last year. I'm in the middle of Pretties - Scott Westerfeld, will probably finish the series before I start something else. I am normally pretty narrow minded in the genre's I choose from, but always feel pleasantly surprised at different books and think I should choose more books at random because I think I miss some really good ones.

MontserratCaballe · 31/12/2014 21:07

I'm in. I got out of the voracious reading habit I used to have, so this will be a welcome kickstart.

What shall I tackle first, I wonder ....

frogletsmum · 31/12/2014 21:10

I'm in too. Loved hearing what everyone else has been reading this year, even though I'm hopeless at posting. Actually recording what I read was a great motivator.

First up for me this year is The Woman in the Picture by Katharine McMahon, a novel about a female lawyer in 1920s London. Never come across this author before but a friend lent it to me so want to get on with it.

Rebus I have The Wild Places on my Kindle too and hope to get to it before too long. His Mountains of the Mind was fantastic.

CandyLoo · 31/12/2014 21:15

I'm in. I've lurked on these threads for the last 2 years and think it's now time to join! I'll be very pleased to get anywhere near 50 but will still contribute and I'll enjoy reading everyone's recommendations and discovering new authors.

Sirzy · 31/12/2014 21:15

I'm in, New Years resolution isto make more time to read so this is ideal

mum2jakie · 31/12/2014 21:17

Signing in. I lost motivation towards the end of 2014 but still read well over 50 books over the course of the year and it was nice to have a record to look back on.

Wolfiefan · 31/12/2014 21:20

Didn't join in last year. Maybe this year I can manage it. As someone else asked does anything count or does it need to be prize winning?!

ConcreteElephant · 31/12/2014 21:20

My New Year's resolution (for what that's worth - ho de hum!) is to read more and fanny about on the iPad less in the evenings ... I'm a librarian for goodness' sake, I'm ashamed of how little I read last year.

So, annoyingly I have quite a chunky one to start - The signature of all things by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Good luck to all, I'm looking forward to getting some inspiration and reading things other than Winnie the Witch and Ten Little Pirates.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 31/12/2014 21:21

Newbie signing in. Think I'll be kicking off with The Miniaturist.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/12/2014 21:23

Froglet - Mountains of the Mind = superb.

Am Remus, not Rebus though - totally different literary inspiration! Wink

Oh and it doesn't have to be prize winning, for those who asked. Mine varied from huge tomes about exploration to Enid Blyton! Can only count ones that you've read the whole of though, not any that you gave up for being boring/crap etc.

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 31/12/2014 21:23

Just what I need. I'm planning on spending a lot more time reading this year, and a lot less time pissing about on FB/MN. Got a few personal development books I want to read, but started a trashy Mandasue Heller in the bath tonight, so that will be book 1.

whatwoulddexterdo · 31/12/2014 21:25

I mean DavidNicholls,
Not a great start!
Sorry!

AnnField · 31/12/2014 21:27

I'm in. Managed 163 last year but didn't keep up with the thread. Just started The Stonecutter by Camilla Lackberg (got the whole series for 99p each on the kindle recently)

cruikshank · 31/12/2014 21:28

Ooh, can I join in? I really must read more (I always used to) and I think this would give me the motivation to do it. I intend to start Wolf Hall tomorrow (yes, yes, I know - five years after everyone else ...)
