Well I finished it. It was ok, a bit heavy-handed in its (v thinly veiled) criticism of the current Japanese gov't and social system ...

Ah, I'm tempted to see the film, having read the book. Is the film very gory? I don't really like too much blood ...

Yes it is pretty gory - I haven't seen it all, but I've seen bits of it when DS was watching the DVD (DS is 18 btw, before anyone asks!)

film is quite gory, but very very good and worthwhile watching. ONe of my favourite films.

Didn't know there was a book.

didnt even know this was a book. ive seen the film, which i thought was brilliant (and yes the film is quite gory) seen battle royale 2 too.

I've only seen the films - loved the first one (and yes, it is extremely gory, can't remember much of the second one.

the book was very good, much more character background, as is the manga version (tho it runs to about 24 issues at 7 quid a pop tho!).....it's taking up sooo much shelf space here!

I never seem to get into manga. Well, I got a good one about the life of Buddha, that worked for me, but generally ... not my thing.

I'll have to see the movie sometime, though ...
