It's called 'the end' and my ds will faint with joy when I present him with it! (if I can find one here in the sticks)

I bought it for DS on Sunday. Books etc had run out, and Waterstones had it hidden at the back in the children's section with the other Lemony Snikett books - which is strange as it is supposed to be the biggest kids book publication this year.

DS had finished it by the time he returned from school on Monday.

janeite · 17/10/2006 19:21

DD and I both read it this weekend - I really liked it but still lots of questions left unanswered. I wonder what he plans to do next?

RTKangaMummy · 17/10/2006 19:27

We got DS's copy in TESCO last week

nikkie · 17/10/2006 21:27

Don't say thers is still questions left that'll drive me mad!
(if my book ever arrives )

MrsSpoon · 17/10/2006 21:28

Can I just ask all Lemony Snicket fans what age your children are? DS1 is 7 and enjoyed the film, just wonder whether he could cope with books.

janeite · 17/10/2006 21:37

DD1 is 11 and has read them since the first one came out. DD2 who is 9 can't really get on with them - they are quite "wordy" and have quite sophisticated humour, which tbh she's not really getting just yet.

A series for slightly younger children, in a similar vein (ie: beautiful colours and pics and quite an old fashioned feel), is "The Spiderwick Chronicles" - maybe he could read these and then move onto the Snickets?

MrsSpoon · 17/10/2006 22:01

Thanks janeite, I'll have a look at The Spiderwick Chronicles.

Piffle · 17/10/2006 22:05

DS has read his
I got mine from TEscos

Piffle · 17/10/2006 22:05

best thing was I got him to clean the car in and out and tidy his room before he could get his hands on it

EmmyLou · 17/10/2006 22:13

used the copy i bought as a weapon to make dd1 tell me what a fab mother she has (makes change from what she mutters about me under her breath usually ).

Got in the spirit of things and left her a note in the kitchen along the lines of "Don't look on your bookshelf as I am sure you will be able to find something far less unfortunate to do." type of thing. Took her a few momants for the penny to drop then she legged it to her room. Bless. She's 11.

clerkKent · 18/10/2006 13:33

Mrs Spoon, I started reading them to DD when she was 7. She got bored in the 4th/5th book, and we have never gone back to them. IMO there is a lot of repetition and not really a great deal of action.

DS (mentioned below) is 12 and loves them.

nikkie · 20/10/2006 21:49

I read it yesterday, it does seem a bit unfinished as there is still unanswered questions and does seem to be stranger than the others or isit just me?
