What did you think? I'm deciding my Christmas reading at the moment and it's on the short list. Should I buy it?

Watching with interest. I downloaded a sample of it onto my kindle a couple of days ago, but it didn't grab me. Wondering whether it gets better?

Ashwagandha · 22/12/2014 08:21

I'm in the same position. Read the sample and can't decide!

Have just downloaded it on Kindle. It will be a while, however - I have started reading Ulysses (thought it would be a good project over long Christmas break) and it's already taken me about three hours to get to page 20 so don't anticipate getting to the Miniaturist until mid-January at least!

The Miniaturist has had absolutely rave reviews, though, from readers as well as critics, so I reckon it's worth persevering.

whitewineandchocolate · 22/12/2014 09:34

I've read up to 15% on the kindle and am enjoying so far, lovely writing style.

ElizabethHoover · 22/12/2014 09:36

i liked it - woudlnt rave

i liked the Interestings more and am loving the Rosie project atm - about a year after everyone else

ElizabethHoover · 22/12/2014 09:37

also liked

ISsy bradley - very good

Elizabeth is missing

and lies we tell ourselves ( a lot)

Orangeanddemons · 22/12/2014 09:39

I though it was fab. Was gripped by it!

Ashwagandha · 22/12/2014 10:43

Thanks all, think I will download it tonight and get started.
ElizabethHoover - loved Rosie! I have the second one but haven't read it yet. I also have Elizabeth is Missing and am looking forward to that too. Thanks for recommending Issy Bradley and Lies We Tell Ourselves - I've just downloaded samples for them.
If anyone is after a nice, easy but not trashy read I highly recommend What ALice Forgot by Liane Moriarty.

I was disappointed.

MmeMorrible · 22/12/2014 17:37

I was gripped until about 2/3rds through but ultimately it was a complete let down. Badly plotted with no big reveal at the end.

Taffeta · 22/12/2014 17:39

I really liked it. Not usually a fan of historical or fantasy type genre, but it was very interesting and a bit different.

Southeastdweller · 22/12/2014 18:14

I'm keen to see what all the fuss is about. I see it's out in paperback next month and the MN book of the month for February. I'll read it around then.

DuchessofMalfi · 22/12/2014 18:17

Just spotted that too, Southeast. As it was only £1.80 atm on kindle I decided to buy it, and will also save it to read for the bookclub in February :)

i enjoyed it! maybe a little overhyped though.
