Any recommendations for a light biography? I come with very little knowledge of classical music, if that is relevant!

Mozart's women by Jane Glover was published a few years ago to excellent reviews: I enjoyed it too.

It does concentrate on the women on his life but obviously, he features prominently too! It is a lovely book and may be in paperback now.

The Grove Mozart (Stanley Sadie) is definitive for facts but vvvv dry; for a whole life try Eric Blom - dated but generally accurate and entertaining. Also deals with music separately (good and bad idea in equal measures) but this does mean you get a feel for the life before heading off into the music which you absolutely must of course!
