Margaret Atwood.

When I read her books I get whisked away. She has such a great imagination, and such a skill with words. And her books always make me "feel" something. Just got to the end of The Blind Assassin, and I feel like someone has winded me.

So who is your favourite author?

I like her too. If you haven't already read it, I recommend Alias Grace. First book I read of hers and I loved it. Ooh ooh and The Robber Bride!

I loved Alias Grace and pretty much all of her earlier books. Really can't get on with the Oryx & Crake trilogy though.

Leslie pearce and andrea levy.

I actually haven't read Alias Grace, but it's next on my pile, after I've read The Humans.

I haven't read any Leslie Pearce or Andrea Levy. Will have a look on Amazon.

Chimimanda Ngozie Amadichie

I know I haven't spelt that right, but I adore her writing. I've loved everything of hers I've read. Wise, well-researched, imaginative, descriptive and warm-hearted.

I adore Stephen King. Just great writing.

P.G. Wodehouse for his humour and his masterly command of the English sentence.

She's definitely one of my faves.
I don't tend to follow authors but I always give her stuff a go, and also Michel Faber.

I also love Chimanda Ngozie Adichi! Another of my favourites is Barbara Pym. Her books just whisk me away to the lovely era of the 1950s. Joanne Harris is another favourite.

I don't like Margaret Atwood. I find her depressing.

I like Stieg Larsson, Peter May, Jo Nesbo, Conan Doyle, Philippa Gregory, Jussi Adler-Olsen, Joanne Harris, and probably loads of others I can't think of right now.

Paulina Simons - the Bronze Horseman trilogy are my favourite books of all time but her others are great too and really varying storylines.

I don't have a single favourite, but I will read anything by Sarah Waters, Georgette Heyer, Dorothy L Sayers, Tamora Pierce, P G Wodehouse and Hilary Mantel.

Actually, I just remembered that I do have a favourite author - Jane Austen.

And Mary Renault. And Diana Wynne Jones. Choosing is hard.

Christopher Brookmyre. Love his books and the new Jack Parlabane is out in January!

I used to love Mary Renault. I haven't read her for years.

We went on holiday to Crete shortly after I read The King Must Die, and visited Knossos while we were there.

My favourite author is Margaret Atwood! The Handmaid's Tale is my favourite book.

I've just been reading her recent book of short stories - Stone Mattress. They're really good.

My favourite favourite is John Steinbeck- I love his descriptions and his characters and have read all his books (east of Eden is my all time favourite).

Other favourites are Edith Wharton, JG Ballard, Elizabeth Jane Howard, Barbara Kingsolver.

Love a good thriller too- I'm still mourning the end of Rebus!

Dorothy Dunnett - if there was one book I wish I could read again for the first time, it would be The Game of Kings - the first in the six volume Lymond saga.

Balderdaddle, I love The Bronze Horseman trilogy. Will re read them soon, when I've reduced my pile I have already. Again, I couldn't pick one particular author. Love Ian Rankin, Philippa Gregory, Maeve Binchy. Kathy Reichs, Patricia Cornwell, James Herbert, Colleen McCulough to name a few

John Connolly is my absolute favourite, but I also love C J Sansome, Agatha Christie and P D James. Ooh and Alison Weir.
Don't read much these days though as it just makes me fall asleep

Bolshy East of Eden is my favourite John Steinbeck. Of Mice and Men is my "life changing" book - I was so moved by it. I loved The Cazalets series by EJH, but found her other books hard to get into. They dramatised The Cazalets 13 years ago and I really enjoyed it. I have just googled EJH and discovered that she wrote a fifth book in the series that was published last year. That will go on my Christmas wish list.
