Yr7 DS2 is reading Don Quixote

Is he, really? He enjoys reading but isn't considered gifted or anything. 5B for English in his year 6 SATS

He brought the book home from school because it's worth lots of points in Accelerated Reading (if he can answer the questions!) He appears to have read the first 100 or so pages and can tell me a basic plotline, although I've never read it so have no idea if he's right.

Is it possible that it can be read on two levels, a simple plot and a deeper meaning and that he's enjoying the basic story, rather than the whole book IYSWIM? Or is he just reading words on a page?

I know what you mean. My DD is 10 in year 6 and has just read Wuthering Heights. I was a bit about it but she read it, finished it and knows the plot.

I remember reading things which were rather beyond me at the same age and going back to them years later to find I'd missed a lot of plot and detail.
