My favourite Georgetter Heyer novel is Devil's Cub, which others would I like?

Sometimes you just want a moody badly behaved yet powerful man who is transformed by true love.

I read Venetia and it didn't tick my boxes.

Well it is a sequel to 'These Old Shades' so that might be worth a try or maybe 'Lady of Quality'.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 18:27

Yes, I've read These Old Shades, sorry forgot to mention that. I''l try Lady of Quality.
Thanks for replying!

Have you tried Faro's Daughter? Or The Grand Sophy?

BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 18:52

Faro's daughter - no, thanks for the suggestion
the grand sophy, I think so, off to google.
I've read about four but I can't remember which ones - these old shades, devils cub, venetia and one other
one about a girl called a funny name

Friday's child!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 18:54

yes, read the grand sophy

and it turns out regency buck.

so more than I thought!

Try Arabella ?

BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 18:59

Great, thanks so much for all the suggestions. That's me sorted for a while!

Is the funny name Theophania? In which case, I think it's The Nonesuch

Takver · 29/10/2014 19:45

Have you read Faro's Daughter? Or you could go for An Infamous Army which has a badly behaved woman & nice bloke Grin

NakedFamilyFightClub · 29/10/2014 19:55

Oh, you'll definitely like Faro's Daughter I think if you liked Devil's Cub.

How about The Reluctant Widow for a powerful, know it all but 'good' bloke? It has a lot of humour in it.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 19:59

Funny name was hero in Friday's child.
I knew MN was the right place to go for specific Georgette Heyer recommendations!

You might like Black Sheep (or Lady of Quality but I see that's already been suggested).

Then read Cotillion to see the rake get his come-uppance...

BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 20:10

Oh I do like a rake reformed by love

OP posts:
BuckskinnedAstronaut · 29/10/2014 20:13

It depends how rakey you want, really -- if you're starting off with Avon and Vidal you aren't quite going to live up to that level, but Miles Calverleigh and Oliver Carleton at least have Bad Reputations (but the plots of those two are quite superficially similar, so maybe spread them out a bit).

BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 20:15

Have I peaked too soon in rake terms then?

OP posts:
BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 20:18

What venetia was missing (for me) was the chase. Of her by him. So pursuit is good. That and a rake.

The Convenient Marriage
The Masqueraders
The Corinthian
Arabella

Immediately!

Advanced search "georgette heyer book club" to pull up twenty-something threads. I think we're overdue Frederica and you'll like that too.

MollyBdenum · 29/10/2014 20:22

Yes. He's by far the rakiest, especially if lovely lovely Damerel in Venetia didn't do it for you.

I don't like sulky attempted rapist Vidal, and I also dislike Rotherham in Bath Tangle, so you might like that one.

HoratiaDrelincourt · 29/10/2014 20:23

Oh, and Sylvester, if you like them moody.

I wish I could read Devil's Cub for the first time. In Infamous Army Dominic is a gouty old man Shock Grin

BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 20:23

Yes miss. Right away miss.

Of to download faro on Kindle

OP posts:
BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 20:24

Damerel was just fine except for where he didn't chase venetia down.

I'm a feminist really I promise

OP posts:
HoratiaDrelincourt · 29/10/2014 20:25

Yes, Vidal is a bit rapey. A bit "omg you're the first woman who stood up to me when I tried to rape her - I'd better marry you because marital rape won't be outlawed for over two hundred years".

HoratiaDrelincourt · 29/10/2014 20:26

Damerel is an alcoholic. Even Venetia can't change him.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 29/10/2014 20:27

I don't really remember vidal, I read it Ages ago
