next, How to tell you are in an Austen novel?

  1. You have a pair of fine 'eyes'.

Also: You are given to running out into the wild, stark moorland at night, and throwing yourself into puddles in a fit of passion. Which does nothing for your simple, modest attire.

  1. You are quiet and studious and capable, but you allow the influence of a well meaning but interfering Aunt (or other older female) to crush your romantic yearnings.

I am competent at embroidery but not accomplished.

I have been to France and I didn't think that much of it.

I've been dieting for the last two and a half years so that covers the bit about something being forbidden...

Oh god! Shock

Also: (Brontes again, not Austen): You are incapable of discerning red flags in a potential mate. Remember, if a man tells you that he is an untameable brute/ has a dark and terrible secret- listen. He is telling you what he's really like. What a shame that the Mumsnet Relationships board won't be invented for another 150 years....

Ahh yes you have a penchant for tormented men b2cause you know that they will be transformed by your love.
