I want to be like Lizzie but I think I'm the worst cross of Emma and Fanny Price. I think my dh is like Bingley. Give me your Jane Austen characters and your dhs too

OP posts:

I would love to think I was like Lizzie too but fear I am far more Lydia Blush. Single but my ex was Wickham, feckless, in debt and loved spending other people's money.

Thumbwitch · 08/10/2014 04:29

Probably Emma. Or Mary. Or someone prone to giving lots of advice, not all of it necessarily good.

SuperScribbler · 08/10/2014 10:39

I'm probably most like Anne Elliot - too cautious and dutiful. But luckily my DH is most like Captain Wentworth - loyal and constant.

TurquoiseCat · 08/10/2014 10:47

Actually I think I am like lizzy. My eyes are very fine, don'tcha know Wink

DH would probably be Edmund Bertram. A bit less tactful on occasion though!

Sootgremlin · 08/10/2014 15:17

Ten years ago I would have said Elizabeth, but I've become more subdued and cautious and less witty so identify more with Anne at the moment. DH, Bingley.

IntellectualLlama · 08/10/2014 20:00

Emma, sadly minus the good looks and the private income. Not sure anyone would compare DH to Knightley though!

AmeliaPeabody · 08/10/2014 20:07

In my youth I was probably like Catherine Morland, And I like(d) reading Anne Radcliffe's novels too!

Otherwise probably Emma.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/10/2014 20:09

I am prone to fits of the Marianne Dashwoods at times, and can have a waspish Mary Crawford side at my worst, but I like to think I'm more Elizabeth overall. :)

Dp is Captain Wentworth - dashingly attractive but prone to sulking (and flirting!). Grin

LadyMud · 08/10/2014 20:22

Have you heard of The Austen Project? They're getting six authors to "re-imagine" six JA novels. I can't wait to read Northanger Abbey by Val McDermid!

StairsInTheNight · 08/10/2014 20:28

Oh God, DP is definitely Darcy.

I would like to be Lizzy, but suspect I am actually Emma :-( or worse, Lydia. Bossy AND flirty :-(

Lovage · 08/10/2014 20:34

Like everyone else, I'd love to be Lizzie but I suspect I'm a combination of Emma and Elinor - bossy, think I know best and incapable of romance.

Not sure who DP is - he's very 'new man' ish and you don't get many of those in the 18th C. Are there any Austen men who are devoted to their kids and do the ironing?!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/10/2014 20:39

I bet Colonel Brandon would be willing to change nappies and do the ironing. Or Captain Benwick.

Sootgremlin · 08/10/2014 21:16

Yes, agree Colonel Brandon. Possibly Edward actually, he was always about 'doing the right thing', that could possibly extend to ironing your frocks.

This has made me want to re read them all.

BestIsWest · 11/10/2014 22:23

I love Colonel Brandon. I am more Elinor tan Marianne though. Scrap that I am probably Mrs Dashwood senior.

Muskey · 11/10/2014 22:31

I think I am like ellenor dash wood. DH is more captain wentworth as opposed to Edward ferres

oldgnome · 12/10/2014 00:34

My DH is more like Mr Collins, with a dash of Wickham and Darcy Grin

IsabellaofFrance · 12/10/2014 09:37

I don't know about me, but my own mother is definitely Mrs Bennett!

FrankelandFilly · 12/10/2014 09:43

I've always said MIL reminds me of Lady Catherine de Burgh, not that she's nasty or anything but in the way she speaks.

Pointlessfan · 12/10/2014 09:45

Ladymud, I've just finished the new version of Northanger Abbey - really enjoyed it, very cleverly done!

LadyMud · 12/10/2014 21:44

Oh, thank you Pointlessfan! I'm taking it on holiday next week, just in case it's wet and windy . . .

Perry10 · 17/10/2014 05:12

I would love to be Lizzie, but I have to be satisfied being Emma. DH is Darcy though... Blush

Like2Chat · 28/10/2014 15:58

Think I'm probably Elinor Dashwood, but would love to be Lizzy. DH is George Knightly but without the cash! MIL is Miss Bates as she witters on repeating herself endlessly - that was no criticism, I don't want you to think I'm actually Emma!!!Grin
