A question about Miss Pettigrew

I want to give a friend, who is going into hospital for a not-very-pleasant op, a little present. Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is often mentioned on here as a lovely book, however I haven't read it myself.

Just want to know whether it's generally uplifting and positive - I don't want anything with illness or a sad ending on this occasion. Would it be appropriate .. and if not, any other suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks Smile

Feel good and fabulous! Other positive Persephones are Greenery Street and Its Hard to be Hip Over 30.
