I have some plot q's about I Am Pilgrim - SPOILERS

I have just finished I am Pilgrim and while it was ok I didnt think it lived up to the hype for many reasons.

However a couple of plot issues have niggled me. I read quite a lot of the book late at night and was quite tired so I wonder if I have missed something.

Firstly, the Saracen hates Saudi Arabia because the government beheaded his father. He wants to ruin Saudi by attaching America who are their strongest ally. Why didn't he just attack Saudi directly?

Secondly, in the final scene where Pilgrim is being tortured, why did he have to wait for Bradleys call? Why couldnt he just say "call the Nanny" and then Bradley could show them the video of the child?

Would be interested to hear some others thoughts on this

No idea about first question - possibly larger impact

Second - why would they have called the nanny if the person telling them to is the person who is being tortured.

  1. I thought he hated Saudi and the US equally but decided to attack the US because he saw it as more infidelesque.
  1. I am guessing he wanted Bradley to call first because it would have been more of a shock to the Saracen's sister.

I didn't get the hyoe about this book. Way too much preamble

  1. Because of the far enemy doctrine, which his wife introduced him to while he was training to become a doctor.
  1. Because until he had bradley's call he didn't know Bradley's bit of the plan was working?

I hated this book and the time I wasted reading it. I think it is more suited to a bloke on holiday to read not typecasting whatsoever

I just finished this book. It was a good adventure and kept me entertained for a few days, but the author really doesn't know much about Turkey and his condescension for anyone/anything that is not Western European made me want to vomit all over my Kindle Angry

Re your questions:

(1) America isn't just an ally. It is the reason why Saudi Arabia and Israel can be what they are. Remove America and both SA and Israel will fall (he says).

(2) Yes, he should have said "Call the nanny" but they wouldn't have believed him, thinking he is just trying to buy time.

There were many errors in this book, though, and I posted some of them on the 50-Book Challenge thread, if anyone is interested.

I wondered when I read it whether the Saracen could just have made up some information to save his son's life. How did Pilgrim know what he said was true?
