I am going to:
a/ listen to more books narrated by late Anna Massey
b/ listen or read more books by Daphne Du Maurier

Anyone else loved Rebecca too?
I know there was a tv adaptation of this book but I think I am not going to bother because her writing is so beautiful I don't need to fill in any gaps. Esp. her descriptions of plants and nature are like poetry to me.

Did Anna Massey play Mrs Danvers in the movie?

LadyWithLapdog · 17/09/2014 21:36

I don't know about the TV adaptation but the classic old film was brilliant. Or maybe I saw it at an impressionable age.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/09/2014 21:37

oh no, it was in the 1979 TV version. She was perfect anyway

My cousin Rachael is fantastic!

Rebecca is my favourite book ever, I've read and re read it. My Dad read it to me when I was eight,I think he edited it a bit ,I have lovely memories of being cosy in bed and terrified when they discover the boat!!

Rebecca is one of my favourite books and I also love My Cousin Rachel.

I love the black and white film version of Rebecca with Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine.

I watched it with my 16 yr old ds recently and he loved it. Unbelievably, it's 74 years old - a mini masterpiece imo.

DDM's biography by Margaret Foster is well worth a read and absolutely fascinatingSmile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/09/2014 22:08

Yes the black and white film is fantastic!

Emilia Fox and Charles Dance did a mini series, it wasn't bad.

They are making a new film apparently, Rafe Fiennes and Keira fucking KnightlyAngry

I love the black and white version, bought it for my mum years ago, might have to buy it for myself now

TheBogQueen · 26/09/2014 20:13

Rebecca - we did that in university. It's quite shocking fur it's time - there's a really charged scene where the narrator (we never know her name) and mrs Danvers are sitting on Rebecca's bed talking about rebecca'a underwear etc Shock

Rebecca's Tale by Sally Beaumont is available as an audiobook and it is fantastic.

So, neither narrated by Anna Massey nor by Du Maurier. Confused But inspired by the original story. The narration is fabulous.

I love the B&W film, especially as I am a Hitchcock fan. The second Mrs DeWinter does not have a name...... I will look out the audio book

Fantastic book. In my top 5. Must read it again. Don't bother with the Susa n Hill sequel.
