I have been wading through Abercrombie's The Blade Itself, but I am just not loving it. I think I might give up.

Recently I have read and enjoyed a fair bit of fantasy: Robin Hobbs new Fitz and Fool book, Aaronovitch's PC Pete Grant series, Pete Brett's Daylight WAr, Jim Butcher's latest fantastic Harry Dresden book. Oh, and Scott Lynch's Lies of Locke Lamora and sequels. I love Guy Gavriel Kay.

I also enjoy a good exciting tale: Jeffrey Deaver, Lisa Gardner, Tess Gerritsen and Karrin Slaughter are favs. And Susan Hill.

But. I don't know what to read next. I am so bored of The Blade Itself.

Huh. I'm going to have to go and read some more of the Abercrombie book, aren't I?

Oh Daughter is a really good read. I galloped through it and am going to read it again . Author is Jane Shemilt.

John Connolly?

Have you tried Patrick Rothfuss? I read the Joe Abercrombie a while ago and quite enjoyed them but if it's not gripping you then might be worth leaving them for another time, his most recent book "Half a King" was an easier read (not sure if he was aiming at more young adult but I enjoyed it anyway).

I'm currently reading the new Robin Hobb and loving it :) Then River of Stars is next on my TBR

The new Robin Hobb was absolutely lovely. So was River of Stars - Kay's writing is so poetic and lyrical, I just love it. I really can't work out why I am not enjoying the Blade Itself - I think I am finding the characters very unlikeable.

Anyway - Just looked at John Connolly - 4 books bundled for £3.50 on Amazon, which looks good to me! I will give Daughter a go too - I read the free sample, and it looks interesting.

Funnily enough, I haven't read any Patrick Rothfuss, but now you have mentioned it I have remembered I have one of his books on my wishlist.

So there - I now have 3 more things to try. Thank you all!
