I need a good book set in Derbyshire and/or a good meaty saga!

Loved The Cazalets and the century trilogy (waiting for number 3).

And I'm off to Derbyshire in a few weeks.

Any suggestions please.

Ooh - I just googled and Georgette Heyer's The Toll-Gate is set there. I love that one.

Of course, P&P is partly set there.

P&P on my list. Will look at toll gate. Thanks

I don't know whether you like crime novels?

Stephen Booth's Cooper and Fry series set in the Peak District are a good read.

Booth worked as a journalist in the area and hung out with local police officers. He knows the area extremely well and this comes across in his writing. Some of the books taught me stuff I didn't know about the history of the Peak District ( we go walking there a lot) eg the huge numbers of planes from WWII which crashed there, and whose sites can still be seen. Interesting development of the relationship between the two main characters too as the series progresses.

Sounds promising. Will take a look. Thanks

I also recommend Stephen Booth, if you like crime. Really enjoy his books.

You could try:

The Shadow Year by Hannah Richell www.tripfiction.com/books/the-shadow-year/ One of the faves of last year.

The Reaper by Steven Dunne www.tripfiction.com/books/the-reaper/

Years of Wonder by Geraldine Brooks www.tripfiction.com/books/year-of-wonders/

Yes to P&P. Came on to say, 'Year of Wonder' but have been beaten to it.

Set in Devon not Derbyshire but have you read RF Delderfield's Horseman Riding By trilogy? Bloody fantastic read!
